Intensive 2

The second intensive of the CYS 200hr Yoga Teacher Training builds on the foundation previously developed in Intensive 1. We will look more specifically at the family of postures known as ‘forward fold’. What is beautiful about this method is that we don’t have to show you every single forward fold pose, but you will know how to teach all of them by the end of this intensive.

Asana

Each morning, a Lead Trainer teaches asana (yoga posture practice) that reveals the principles of forward fold. You will have the freedom to explore how to modify each posture so that you don’t sacrifice your back (or your students’).

An explicit focus on breath (or pranayama) is introduced in this Intensive as a way to train attention.

Practice Teaching

Practice teaching continues this intensive by clarifying the lesson of Intensive 1 and then adding some new bits. You will practice placing, moving, and holding your students in different forward folds. And, of course, you will have the opportunity to create your own sequences for forward fold. Lastly, your teaching will be enhanced by learning how to teach pranayama (the breath).

Philosophy

In intensive 2 we begin studying Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra. This text begins to ask questions about what Yoga is, why we practice, and what obstacles we might encounter.
