Vary Your Movement Diet: A Holistic Approach to Wellness
At Circle Yoga Shala, we believe that movement is as essential to your well-being as the food you eat. Just as a mono-diet of only one type of food would leave your body craving essential nutrients, a mono-diet of movement—or lack thereof—leaves your body, mind, and spirit undernourished.
Consider the typical modern lifestyle. Hours spent sitting at desks, in cars, or on couches form the bulk of many people's daily "movement." While sitting has its place, relying on it as your primary movement pattern deprives your body of the 'nutrients' found in walking, running, jumping, lifting, pulling, pushing, crawling, climbing, swimming, throwing, and exploring the wide spectrum of motion your body is designed to enjoy.
Movement nourishes us.
It strengthens our muscles and bones, maintains the health of our connective tissues, enhances our balance, and improves our ability to respond to life’s physical, mental, and emotional challenges. Beyond the physical, movement also fosters mental clarity and emotional regulation.
Think of a child at play—running, climbing, crawling, and laughing. Their movement is joyful and free, full of exploration and creativity. They don’t think about “exercising” or getting stronger; they’re simply alive in their bodies, fully engaged in the moment. This is the kind of embodied freedom we strive to rediscover as adults.
This is why all our programs place ‘nutritious’ movement at the foundation of all learning.
In our 200-hour and 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training we go beyond traditional yoga asana. By integrating diverse movement patterns into our curriculum, we help students unlock their full potential and cultivate resilience, vitality, and grace.
In our MoveWise Biomechanical Certification, we teach how to assess and correct deficient movement patterns. We use a wide range of mobility techniques and activations to clear asymmetries, enhance mobility, revitalize joints, improve balance, reduce pain, and grow proprioception.
Just as a balanced diet supports the whole body, a varied movement diet nourishes the whole self. So, take time to walk, run, jump, and play. When was the last time you climbed, crawled, or threw something just for fun?
We invite you to move with purpose and curiosity.
And if you need a little help, join us—our programs start this spring (2025). Explore our offerings and discover how nourishing it can be to embrace the full spectrum of your body’s potential.
