FAQs

What kind of meals do you serve?

All meals served during trainings and retreats are vegetarian and Ayurvedically-inspired. Meals are prepared from scratch and with local ingredients, as much as possible.

We serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Coffee and tea is available throughout the day.

Lunch is the biggest meal because that’s when your digestive power (or Agni) is the strongest. Dinners are light, often consisting of soup and salad.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient system for health and longevity, often called a “sister science of Yoga”. At the center of the teachings are the 5 elements and the 6 tastes.

Ayurvedic food is cooked and spiced such that meals are easily digestible and nourishing to all senses.

Do you accommodate special diets?

Our kitchen is very small and efficient, so accommodations for special diets are limited. If you have a food allergy, please contact us to discuss. Please note that all special dietary needs have an extra charge.

What about snacks?

You are welcome to bring snacks if you’d like to supplement your meals. Please note that all snacks must be kept in sealed containers in your sleeping space. You can purchase ice at a nearby store in Ponca. The main fridge is not available for guests to store food.

What if I want to eat somewhere else?

No problem! The nearest restaurants and grocery store are in downtown Jasper, about 20-25 mins away and you are welcome to dine there. There are no refunds for your planned Shala meals through.

Want to cook like the shala? We have a program just for that!
