Collective Community

Circle Yoga Shala is comprised of a small group of long time friends with a common interest in conscious evolution; and an equally long history engaged in spiritual practices geared to that end. In 2009 we finalized plans to pool our material resources and our collective creativity to purchase land in the Ozarks to create a self-sustainable haven for ourselves, in which to continue both our work on ourselves, and our service to others.

Business Principals

Matthew and Holly Krepps were the owners of Barefoot Studio, Little Rock, AR., for approximately ten years. After selling the studio, they along with their senior teacher, Louanne Lawson, purchased a 25 acre working homestead and began Circle Yoga Shåla.

Matthew has practiced yoga for over 16 years. Drawn to the possibility of experiencing meditative absorption within the dynamic context of synchronized breath and movement, he began studying the Ashtanga vinyasa form with Louise Ellis of Fayetteville Arkansas, who is certified by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Matthew eventually traveled to Europe and completed the course of study at the Can Am Yoga Shala in Ibiza, Spain, under the guidance of Hatha Yoga adept Godfrey Devereaux. Matthew is one of four yogis in the US with Godfrey’ Devereux’s blessing to teach The Dynamic Yoga Method. Matthew holds degrees in literature and philosophy from the University of Central Arkansas. He has also worked as a professional musician. In addition to yoga, Matthew is a trained cook and is adept in cuisine from every continent and uses the principles of Ayurveda in his preparations.

Holly also began practicing approximately 16 years ago with a meditation practice that led her to asana and yoga as a whole. Through her own experiences she discovered that there is an emotional component to most physical illness and needs. Yoga is a vehicle that can facilitate healing emotionally and physically. She was thereby drawn to yoga as a means to restore balance on a deep cellular level. She eventually studied with Ana Forrest and many other teachers. However, her main teacher has always been her husband, Matthew. Over the years it has been through experiencing the many insights and states of awareness available as a result of doing yoga that has led to her real practice, which is that of surrender. Surrender to the divine and to what is happening in each moment, maintaining a felt connection to her Self, which is the opposite of getting lost in mechanical action, is the basis for joy and peace in the midst of this beautiful play of MA(ya).

Louanne Lawson has been practicing yoga in various forms since her hair was dark. She was introduced to asana practice by Lilias Folan on public television. She used Richard Hittleman’s “28-Day Yoga” and Bikram’s “Beginning Yoga Class” to learn yoga as geometric form. She has studied with a number of local teachers, including Lynn Frazier, Nell Weaver, and Cliff Riggs, and each of these and other teachers offered challenges and opportunities for growth. When she met Matt and Holly at Barefoot she found what she didn’t know she was looking for: that yoga as action – both on and off the mat – answered a deep yearning, a yearning for stability, for ease in transition, for balance. As a teacher, Louanne communicates a clear recognition of integrity in connection.
